I am sure all men have heard from their father’s or someone in their lives the phrase, “if you look good, you feel good!” Well, there is certainly some real-life truth to that. Unless you are an extreme homebody, it is inevitable that you must interact with other people on occasion. Whether it be in the grocery store, at work, or walking your dog, I’m sure we would all like to look our best. One of the ways we can help build our morale is by regular visits to your local barbershop for grooming and maybe a bit of conversation.
Barbershops have been a staple in many communities for years. Grooming is an important part of our culture and identity. In the African American community, getting a “fresh haircut” is equivalent to winning a small fortune some may say. In other cultures, grooming is also a very important component to presentation. First impressions are priceless, and a well-groomed head of hair and tamed beard can go a long way!
Although barbershops are mainly businesses for grooming, they are also used by some as a therapy session. There is no conversation like some great “barbershop talk.” This interaction may help to solve some issues that one may be dealing with. It helps to bounce a problem off another man that may have been or currently is in a similar situation. Having an open and honest ear always feels good.
Visit your local barbers as often as your budget allows. This will help you stay fresh and quite possibly up to date on current events you may be behind on. They also will offer you a sense of community and will help to lift your morale as you walk with confidence knowing you look your best!
